چکیده
Cadmium(II) is a toxic hazardous cation, whose presence in the environment causes great concern because of its bioaccumulation in organisms and bioamplification along food chain. Hence, the removal of cadmium compounds from industrial waters and wastewaters is particularly essential, which requires intensive experimental and modelling studies to deal with the problem. In this work, the ion exchange of Cd ions from aqueous solution using microporous titanosilicates (ETS-4 and ETS-10) has been modelled using adapted Maxwell–Stefan equations for the ions transport inside the sorbent particles. The fundamentals of the Maxwell–Stefan equations along with correlations for the convective mass transfer coefficients have been used with advantage to reduce the number of model parameters. In the whole, the model was able to represent successfully the kinetic behaviour of 11 independent and very distinct curves of both studied systems (Cd/Na/ETS-4 and Cd/Na/ ETS-10). The predictive capability of the model has been also shown, since several uptake curves were accurately predicted with parameters fitted previously to different sets of experimental data.

Socio-demographic characteristics of passive smokers exposed to environmental tobacco smoke and the influence of community-based interventions on its reduction in Isfahan, Najaf Abad and Arak
Introduction: Environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) inhaled by passive smokers cause health problems such as lung cancer, ischemic heart disease and asthma in adults and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), asthma, fetal growth retardation and neurodevelopment problems in children. The goal of this study was to determine socio-demographic characteristics of passive smokers exposed to ETS and evalua...
متن کاملPRODUCTION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF MONOCLONAL ANTIBODIES TO CLOSTRIDIUM PERFRINGENS ENTEROTOXIN DERIVED FROM DIFFERENT ANIMAL SPECIES
The enterotoxins (ETs) of Clostridium perfringens isolated from enterotoxemic or diarrheic alpacas, pigs, calves, dogs, and horses were obtained from sporulated cell extracts. The ETs from alpaca, pig, and calf isolates were chromatographed on Sephadex G-lOO. Monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) against ETs derived from alpaca, pig, and calf C. perfringens isolates were produced. The MAbs were used...
متن کاملAttitude and Performance of Faculties Towards the Implementation of the Electronic Learning System (ELS) in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences (MUMS) in 2009
Introduction: In recent years ETS has become a common method of training in many universities around the country but we do not have similar experiences in Medical Universities. The aim of the current study is to investigate the attitude and performance of MUMS faculties towards the implementation of ETS. Method: This descriptive – cross sectional study was carried out in 2009. The study popula...
متن کاملRemoval of mercury(II) and methylmercury from solution by tannin adsorbents
Adsorption of mercury(ll) and methylmercury by two tannin sorbents was investigated using radiotracers. High sorption capacities for mercury are registered for both sorbents at pH 7. For Eucaliptus Saligna Sm sorbent (ETS) the maximum sorption capacity was 1.2_+.0.2 mmol/g and for Lysiloma latisiliqua sorbent (LTS) was 8.5+0.2 mmol/g. Methylmercury adsorption maximum was recorded at pH 4 and in...
متن کاملETS-4 Is a Transcriptional Regulator of Life Span in Caenorhabditis elegans
Aging is a complex phenotype responsive to a plethora of environmental inputs; yet only a limited number of transcriptional regulators are known to influence life span. How the downstream expression programs mediated by these factors (or others) are coordinated into common or distinct set of aging effectors is an addressable question in model organisms, such as C. elegans. Here, we establish th...
